The I Am Self Portrait was the first assignment of the year in art. This piece was supposed to be a poetic self portrait that included different symbols and parts of your life. It also had to be a multimedia piece. You didn't have to do a self-portrait for your face, but instead you could do a hand print, fingerprint or anything that could be identified as you.
In my piece I decided to include a couple of different parts of my life. In the center you can see where I drew my eyes, I used a regular #2 pencil for this. This was the part of my self-portrait that was me. There are three images in the piece, they are all different landmarks around the world that I have visited. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Arc De Triomphe and a padgoda in Thailand. These images represent the fact that traveling is a huge part of my life. My family and I often take vacations to experience new cultures and explore different parts of the world. These are just pictures I printed on regular paper. The crescent moon is the moon from the Pakistani flag. This represents another huge part of my life because my entire family is Pakistani. The generations before me, my parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. were all born in Pakistan and most immigrated here. Some of my family still lives there and we have visited before, but not enough times. The crescent was done out of copper sheet. The other copper symbol you see is my zodiac sign, I am a Capricorn. I chose to do these pieces out of copper because my dad is an artist and incorporates it into a lot of his work. The last thing in this piece is the background. The entire background is hand drawn with drawing pens. I chose to do this as the background because it is something that I really enjoy drawing. It is a design that I feel is unique and when you see it you can tell who drew it.
