Describe what your experience was like this week.
I liked the experience this week because I was able to see different types of colleges and learn things I didn’t know before. I was able to see what I liked and disliked in a college including majors, location and the general atmosphere of the school.
What differences did you notice between the different schools you visited?
Some differences I noticed between the colleges we visited we campus sizes, history of the school, amount of majors, diversity of students, and the location.
How has this experience changed/influenced your ideas around college? For example:
This experience has changed the way that I thought about some of the colleges we visited. For example, my sister said that she didn’t like Cal Poly SLO, so I thought that I wouldn’t like it either. But, after visiting and hearing from the students at SLO, I realized that I actually liked it. I also changed my idea on small private schools like Chapman, I thought that I would like the smaller campus. After we visited the campus I realized that it was too small for me and I didn’t really like it. I think I will be fine being away from my parents as long as I talk to them on the phone. I know that I won’t like driving really long distances to get home, but if it is a college that is worth it then I won’t mind. I don’t think that any of the schools that we went to were worth it for me personally.I am fine being in a different city/culture because it is relatively easy for me to adapt to new places. I am already pretty responsible for myself, so I can manage my own time and do basic things such as laundry and keeping my room organized.
What are you looking forward to the most in college?
I am looking forward to making new friends and becoming more responsible for myself. I am also looking forward to beginning my professional career and seeing what I want to do with my future. College is also a great opportunity to network with people in the professional world which is also something that I am looking forward to.
What are you most concerned about for college?
The thing I am most concerned about for college is not knowing exactly what I want to major in, I have ideas about what it might be but I don’t know for sure.
Are you interested in Study Abroad?
Yes, I am interested in Study Abroad, I think it would be a great opportunity to learn more about other cultures.
Did you hear about any clubs or organizations you would be interested in joining?
Yes, I heard of some clubs that I would be interested in such as the Multicultural Club and Gender Equity organization.
What type of college (or trade school) are you interested in attending?
I am most interested in going to a college that offers a major that I am interested in, has a good reputation, is in a good location and has a good culture. I don’t have a specific preference of public or private because all public schools and all private schools aren’t the same.
Do you think you will stay in-state, or go to another state/country?
I really don’t mind where the college is, as long as the distance is worth it. For example, for me personally UC Merced isn’t worth the distance, but something like UC Berkeley or Stanford would be worth it. I also don’t mind going out of state, again as long as it is worth it for me. I don’t think that I would go out of the country for all four years of college.
