For career day this year I went to Keller Meyer Bergensons services. They provide integrated facility support services to chain stores and other facilities around America, Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada. I shadowed Irfan Siddiqui who is the IT Manager of KBS. The day consisted of seeing how you can manage large amounts of people all of the country. I got to see the behind the scenes of a company who has large customers across America. I learned about what it takes to manage, you have to be patient and organized.
1. What does a typical day look like?
A typical day usually looks like making sure everything is running smoothly. I have some daily meetings with other managers just to check and see where everyone is and how we are benefiting the company as a whole.
2. How often do you use things that you learned in college?
I mostly use things that were specific to my major, which was computer science. I don't use as much of the general education things, but my whole job is based off of me understanding computers, so I would say I use what I learned on an everyday basis.
3. How often do you use computer programs like Java?
Not as often as you might think, but one of our recent projects was to create our own app, so for that project I did use java, but not on an everyday basis.
4. Do you feel like the work you do at work makes a difference in the company as a whole?
Yes, in my old job I was doing stuff, but I couldn´t see any direct results or impacts from that work. In this job I can directly see how my work benefits the company as a whole.
5. Do you travel as a part of your job?
Yes, I do travel. Since we have a lot of customers in other states, we have to visit those sites every so often. They aren't huge traveling expeditions, since we aren't international, but it's still a perk.
